Da Vinci Science Center at PPL Pavilion Opens in Downtown Allentown
The new 67,000 square foot, $75 million facility officially opened to the public today. Located at 815 W. Hamilton Street, the latest addition to a revitalized downtown is expected to attract 400,000 visitors annually and is within 1 mile’s walking distance for 52,000 Allentown residents. Development of the project was funded in part through the Allentown Neighborhood Improvement Zone.
This major educational and economic asset provides interactive experiences and exhibits that promise to ignite curiosity no matter how young or young at heart. The new science center features:
- The Leonardo Experience in Curiosity Hall is a collection of one-of-a-kind interactive experiences, with guests creating digital content at massive scale on a 54-foot-high screen, channeling their inner curiosity as scientists, inventors, and artists just like Leonardo.
- The Lehigh River Watershed exhibit gallery fosters a deeper understanding of the intricate web of ecosystems that surround our urban setting.
- The LVHN My Body exhibit gallery content was informed by more than 60 experts who came together to design and develop exhibits that will educate both students and adults, stimulate interest in health-related careers, and make for a healthier community.
- Science in the Making presented by ATAS International, Inc. highlights manufacturing operations in the Lehigh Valley and artfully illustrates how our everyday lives are profoundly impacted by advances in technology. Guests will discover how scientific principles are applied in making and manufacturing.
- The Da Vinci STEAM Learning Center features fully equipped classrooms, a cutting-edge fabrication laboratory, media production studio and Dual-language (English/Spanish) Little Learners Lab. It is also home to the Allentown School District STREAM Academy.
- Dinos Alive, the first limited engagement exhibit featured in the City Center Gallery, is produced by Exhibition Hub, the world’s leading producer of immersive experiences. This immersive exhibit features life-size animatronic dinosaurs in naturalistic settings, unique photo opportunities, and optional dinosaur rides and virtual reality experiences.
